A sculpture by Olav Lunde crafted from heavily rusted, pitted iron plates with a rich, flaky, earth-toned patina.

"The imprint of a person looking at the sea"

Permanent public commission for Vaxholm skulpturpark | 2018

Forged black steel

This sculpture stands by the sea in Vaxholm, created to evoke the physical and emotional imprint left by the vastness of the ocean. It reflects the sense of awe, stillness, and inner movement that looking out over open water can stir in the body—like a memory stored in the skin and muscles.

Viewers are invited to experience the piece not only visually, but through touch and sound. The coolness and texture of the steel, the echo of wind moving through its hollow form, and the faint resonance of metal together create a multisensory encounter.

"The Impression of a Person Looking at the Sea" (Avtrycket av en person som ser på havet)  is constructed from hundreds of welded steel plates. It stands approximately 2.3 meters tall and weighs roughly 50 kilograms.
