"Balancing on air"
Permanent Public Commission for Kulturhuset, Finspång | 2020
Stainless steel, black steel and lighting
Like a shimmer in the air, a frozen impression lingering on the retina. "Balancing on air" seeks to capture the impossible, precarious moment—the one that usually flashes by unseen.
The main piece stands approximately 3.10 meters tall, depicting a performer balancing on the roof of Kulturhuset in Finspång. Its semi-transparent design, constructed from coarse, widely spaced stainless steel wire, evokes an afterimage or a memory, capturing the fleeting essence of the circus and the precise moment magic occurs.
At night the sculpture is subtly illuminated to maintain its ethereal presence.
The second part of the work is a small tactile version, scaled 1:10 (30 centimeters high), installed at ground level. This allows visually impaired visitors and others to experience the art through touch.
These sculptures were created as an independent integration project within the Cirkusslottet festival in Finspång 2018. Constructed during the summer of 2018, the artwork was a collaborative effort between the artist and five local youths: Hafez Barbari, Alexander Hall, Ziaodin Sharifi, Mostafa Hassani
and Axel Johansson.
The project was financed by Region Östergötland, Finspång Municipality, and Östgötateatern, with support from the Swedish Arts Council. Partners for the 2018 festival were Siemens and NCC.
