"The sorrowful figure"

Temporary public installation for Nya torget, Kiruna | 2025

Forged black steel and recycled machine parts

An interactive automata sculpture designed to illustrate humanity's hopeless struggle against forces beyond our control; how we often fight for an idea despite it being an obviously lost cause.

"The sorrowful figure" (Den sorgliga skepnaden) depicts a confused knight, a Don Quixote-like figure, who, sword in hand, attempts to take on invisible enemies.

Standing approximately 190 cm tall, the piece is primarily constructed from salvaged machine parts.

It features a movable head and arms that allow adjustment of the sculpture’s posture and focus. The base plate is adaptable and can be reinforced depending on the surface requirements.

This work was created as a temporary site-specific installation, designed to engage with the public space for a limited duration.
